Kolate Quick Reference

Kolate 7013
This standard Kolate has an aluminum content of 12.7% and is the color and consistency of honey. Kolate 7013 is a solution of active aluminum alkoxide in a 100 SUS severely hydrotreated napthenic base stock. This is a cyclic trimer of aluminum isopropoxide (AIP) and in the reaction to form the soap, one mol of isopropyl alcohol is released.

Kolate 7013 LV
The same active molecule as Kolate 7013 also in a 50% solution but in a low viscosity oil. The aluminum content is also 12.7%. In appearance it is a clear, nearly colorless, mobile solution and because the oil meets the definition of a technical white oil (CAS 8042-47-5) as established by the FDA and found in 21 CFR 178-3620, this Kolate can be used to prepare H1 food machinery greases.

Kolate 6030
This Kolate is a colorless solution containing 0.6 mols of fatty acid and 0.3 mols of benzoic acid per mol of aluminum. This provides a built-in flexibility that allows grease manufacturers to tailor final grease characteristics by introducing their own choice of fatty acids. With an aluminum content of 5.3% and diluent oil similar to that in Kolate 7013LV, Kolate 6030 is also ideal for preparing H1 greases.

Finally, since there is no alcohol byproduct released in the soap reaction, use of Kolate 6030 simplifies the aluminum complex grease manufacturing process by eliminating problems with condensers and scrubbers.
